Weekend Box Office: Fast & Furious 6 leads record Memorial Day weekend at the box office

Fast & Furious 6 flipped the NOS and never looked back, finishing first in a record-breaking Memorial Day weekend. The second most highest grossing weekend of all time featured three new movies: Fast & Furious 6, The Hangover Part III, and Epic.

Second weekend of Star Trek into the Darkness collected another $38 million to boost its box office totals. Iron Man III and The Great Gatsby are among the two films continuing their longevity in the box office.

The top story at the box office is Fast & Furious 6 earning an outstanding $122 million over the 4-day holiday weekend. Estimates put the action/heist movie at $98+ millon over the traditional 3-day weekend.

It was expected that Fast and Furious 6 would deliver fast earnings as pre-box office release projected $108 million for a 4-day frame. Universal Studios is probably celebrating their major victory, one of their best box office weekend openings to date.

The Hangover Part III underperformed with $51+ million overall, and $42+ million over the 3-day weekend. Box office predictions set $85-88 million on the Rated-R comedy movie. However, the third installment didn't fair well with moviegoers. It is highly likely this may be the last The Hangover movie we watch.

The top box office movies follow below:
  1.  Fast & Furious 6 $98 million
  2. The Hangover Part III $42 million
  3. Star Trek into the Darkness $38 million
  4. Epic $34 million
  5. Iron Man 3 $19 million
  6. The Great Gasby $14 million
  7. Mudd $2 million
  8. 42 $1.2 million
  9. The Croods $1.2 million
  10. Oblivion $815,000
